The Journeyman

boxes everywhere
I turn
some packed for the journey
to come
some lay still unearthed from
the last adventure traveled.

My wife sits patiently on
the front porch swing,
awaiting my last moments with
her before I go.

It is a fool's dream
to spend half his life on the road
and the other half with the ones he loves
but it is a journey I must take.
So I keep them in my heart,
keep them in my thoughts.

Keep my eyes on the path
that leads me home to
my wife's warm embrace
once again.
