My inspiration for my poem, "The Masks", comes from the poetry prompts of Carry On Tuesday - All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players (William Shakespeare), Jingle Poetry - "fear, doubts, hesitations, inhibitions", One Single Impression - "borders", and Poets United Thursday Think Tank - "monsters". I also got inspiration from the Prayer of St. Francis.
The Masks
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players..
we put on our masks,
we act out our fears
through our doubts, hesitations, and inhibitions.
It may bring out our shadow side,
It may give us sleepless nights
yet the monster within will not let us rest
until we make peace with our fear,
by walking though it and crossing the border into trust,
by befriending our doubts and crossing the border into courage,
by letting go of our inhibitions and hesitations and crosssing the border into
a place where love and peace reside.
When our feet remain grounded in this beatiful place,
It is only then when our masks are removed,
the walls on the border of our hearts collapse,
our authentic selves are revealed,
the curtains fall,
a new dawn comes,
and our new play begins.
