When she dreams

when she sees white cranes
frolicking in the marsh,
she dreams of flying,

white feathers flapping
 in the air over the  lake
at sunset .


when she sees her grandfather
 making boots,
she dreams of all the places
those fairy-dusted boots will go,
an Asian temple,
an African Jungle,
a Caribbean beach...


when she sees her own reflection,
she dreams of  the life ahead of her,
and prays that her fairy- dusted,
boot-covered feet
will fly her to a place
 where the life she lives
is the life she dreams of.
